Honda has released preview photo of its 2014 World Touring Car Championship racecar. The Honda Civic WTCC render shows the subtle style of the wheel arch extensions, larger diameter wheels, sleeker aero package and extended rear spoiler. Add all this to increased engine power and the 2014 Honda WTCC racer is clearly ambitious to retain Honda’s Manufacturers World Championship crown and enable the drivers to challenge for the World Champion title.
Porsche has acquired a 51 percent stake in Manthey-Racing GmbH. Manthey-Racing specialises in developing and racing Porsche track cars, but also delivers all manner of services relating to the road cars from Zuffenhausen.
Porsche announced its driver line-up for its return to the top category of the Sports Car World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2014. The young New Zealander Brendon Hartley (24) and long-standing Porsche works driver Marc Lieb (33) from Germany have been confirmed as regular drivers in the LMP1 race car, officially called the Porsche 919 hybrid.
Chevrolet Performance’s COPO Camaro program returns for 2014 with another limited run of factory-produced race cars and a pair of new racing engine choices. It is the third year for the COPO Camaro program and like the previous two, only 69 race cars will be built for NHRA Stock Eliminator and Super Stock competition. They will carry the distinctive, updated styling of the 2014 Camaro lineup, including new front and rear fascias.
In the 2014 season, Audi is aiming to achieve a hat-trick in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with a completely new race car. Only the name remains unchanged, it is still called Audi R18 e-tron quattro, but other than that the 2014 racer has been redeveloped from scratch. At first glance, the new hybrid sports car appears like a continuous further development of the World Championship winning car and Le Mans winner of the past two years.
Citroën Racing announced its line-up for the 2014 World Rally Championship. Kris Meeke/Paul Nagle and Mads Østberg/Jonas Andersson will be the Citroën Total Abu Dhabi World Rally Team’s driver/co-driver pairings in the DS3 WRC next season.
Bentley returns to the competitive motorsport with a trio of accomplished British sports car racers. The team compete together for the first time at the car’s first test race, the Gulf 12 Hours at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi on 13th December 2013. Guy Smith, Steven Kane and Andy Meyrick will pilot the Continental GT3 in two six-hour races in Bentley’s first track-action since winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2003.
