Road Test: 2012 Mitsubishi Pajero 3.2 DiD

When almost every carmaker in these days have a SUV in their line-up, it’s nice to know that there still are also some real off-roaders available. Mitsubishi Pajero stays loyal to its heritance and keeps on providing a real off-roading capability. Eventhough the styling has been updated a few times during the three decades of the car’s history, Mitsubishi Pajero is easily recognizable. Its off-road attitude is still clearly expressed in its design. The short bonnet, tall upright windscreen, low waistline, huge wheelarches, short front overhang and side-hinged tailgate with externally mounted spare wheel are all part of the Pajero’s traditional styling. The upright windscreen, huge side windows, large wing mirrors and high seating position are designed to give the driver a good all-round visibility.

Road Test: 2012 Audi A5 Sportback 1.8 TFSI

The Audi A5 model series has been refreshed for the 2012 model year. The biggest exterior changes can be seen in its front end design. The new front bumper features new air inlets with massive struts, revamped grilles and flat fog lights. The engine hood has been reshaped with sharply chiseled edges. The target was to make the front end look even flatter and wider, a job in which Audi has succeeded quite well. Especially the newly designed headlights make the front of the car look more poised. It looks like the Audi A5 is always ready to go. The lower edge of the headlight forms a wave. With the optional xenon plus headlights, the LED daytime running lights form a narrow frame for the Xenon-headlight. The adaptive light system with dynamic cornering light and turning light is also available. Also the rear bumber and the rear lights of the Audi A5 have been redesigned.

Road Test: 2011 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG

Although there still is the same 63-badging in the tailgate, this new CLS AMG has a completely new engine. The new powerhouse has eight-cylinders like its predecessor, but otherwise the engine is completely new. Engine’s displacement is just 5.5-litres, or 5461 cubic centimetres to be exact. That is 747cc less than the previous, 6208cc engine. The other major difference is that while the previous 6.2-litre V8 was naturally aspirated, this new V8 is turbocharged. The two exhaust gas turbochargers are located next to the cylinder banks to supply the eight cylinders with fresh air. Under full load, when running at maximum speed of 185 000rpm, the two turbochargers force 1750 kg of air into the combustion chambers per hour.
