Audi 80 (B1) (1972-1978)

The first-generation Audi 80 entered production in July 1972. It represented a revolution for the company and featured many new solutions, which were soon adapted to the other models. This new midsize car, which was known in-house as B1, widened the model range below the Audi 100. Audi 80’s harmonious and functional design was the brainchild of a young Hartmut Warkuß. His concept won through against a number of radically wedge-like designs, all of which were rejected by Ludwig Kraus, the Board Member for Technical Development. Ludwig Kraus had demanded strict adherence to lightweight design and the basic model with two doors weighted just 835 kilograms (1,840.86 lb). The first Audi 80 had very compact dimensions. The wheelbase was 2.47 meters (8.10 ft) and the total length of the car was 4.18 meters (13.71 ft).

Update for the Audi Q5

Audi is updating its Q5 model series. The updated SUV is 4630mm long, 1900mm wide and 1650mm tall. The horizontal lines of the high-performance SUV’s front end are emphasized more strongly. The modified bumpers integrate air inlets with high-gloss black inserts and fog lights with chrome rings. When xenon plus headlights are ordered, the tail lights are also designed with a layout of visually uniform LED light bands. The diffuser insert and the tailpipes that taper at the bottom have been redesigned – in two versions, depending on the engine. Roof rails and crossbars are standard equipment. The engine hood and trunk lid consist of aluminum, while a large share of the car’s structural elements integrate ultra-high-strength steels. There is a range of 15 colors, including four new colors. As options, Audi can deliver an S line exterior package or an offroad styling package; both give the Q5 a unique look with their design details and the colors of add-on parts.

Audi RS Q3 concept

Brushed and polished aluminum trim frames the Audi RS Q3 concept’s single-frame radiator grille. Its black grille insert exhibits a new geometry – the honeycombs are slightly offset to one another deeper inside, creating a distinct three-dimensional effect. The lower area of the grille integrates another sculpted feature – a silver quattro signature. The headlights are slightly tinted; inside them, some chrome parts are dark or covered by panels of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP). The bumper was redesigned; there are now powerful edges around the outer air intakes. They are subdivided into two segments – the inner sections have honeycomb screen inserts, while their outer sections, made of CFRP, have a smooth funnel shape. The front spoiler is also made of CFRP. Its lower section is matt black. The entire lower section of the bumper is coated with blue clearcoat paint.

Audi A8 hybrid

Scheduled to launch this year, the Audi flagship model is designed as a highly efficient parallel hybrid. The 2.0 TFSI, which has been modified in some areas, generates an output of 155 kW (211 hp) and 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft) of torque, which is available between 1,500 and 4,200 rpm. The combustion engine works together with a disc-shaped electric motor which develops 40 kW (54 hp) and 210 Nm (154.89 lb-ft). The permanent magnet synchronous motor is mounted in the space usually occupied by the torque converter in front of the modified eight-speed tiptronic. A multi-plate clutch that operates in an oil bath connects or disconnects the electric motor and the TFSI engine. The clutch operates ultra-precisely and gently in all situations. The highly comfortable and fast-shifting hybrid transmission guides the torque to the front wheels.
