The new Competition Package has been developed with a keen eye on enhancing driving dynamics. It includes a power boost for the 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine of 29 kW/40 hp over the standard unit, to 441 kW/600 hp. Peak torque also rises, from 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) in standard tune to 700 Nm (516 lb-ft), and is available across an extremely wide rev band – between 1,500 and 6,000 rpm.
BMW announced the US launch of a new line of BMW M Performance Parts developed specifically for BMW M5 and M6 models. A striking example of this is the BMW M Performance Alcantara leather steering wheel and the race display.
New variants have been added to the selection of BMW Individual special paint finishes available for the most powerful high-performance sports cars built by BMW M GmbH. Joining the range are Frozen Black metallic, Frozen Blue metallic, Frozen Red metallic and Frozen Brilliant White metallic, which can all be ordered for the BMW M5, BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6 Convertible and BMW M6 Gran Coupe.
The BMW 6 Series Coupe looks great in its standard form. Take that as a starting point, add some M exterior and interior design features, and the result is fantastic. Its the new BMW M6 Coupe. At the front end the large air intakes and flared wheel arches create a powerful look. Bmw M6 also has a newly designed M kidney grille with M6 badge. The grille’s black, paired kidney grille slats have a bit of the same design as the M wheels. The new BMW M6 Coupe is fitted with 19-inch M light-alloy wheels as standard. The forged wheels feature seven double-spokes in a two-tone finish.
BMW M GmbH will be offering the Competition Package as an option for the BMW M5, BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6 Convertible and BMW M6 Gran Coupe models. The Competition Package was specifically conceived to enhance handling properties, in adherence to the principle applied to the development of all BMW M automobiles: fine-tuning the suspension technology to the performance curve of the engine to bring maximum performance in line with consistently superlative responses that are precision-controllable even in highly dynamic driving situations.
The new BMW M6 Gran Coupe is powered by a high-revving V8 engine that boasts M TwinPower Turbo technology, develops 560 hp and propels the BMW M6 Gran Coupe from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds. The performance characteristics of the car’s engine, its chassis technology, aerodynamic properties and weight balance are intertwined with hallmark M precision.
The BMW M6 Gran Coupe joins the existing Coupe and Convertible models as a third body variant of the BMW M6. The front of the car is dominated by its large air intakes, standard Adaptive LED Headlights and an M kidney grille designed especially for this model. Prominently flared wheel arches, characteristic M gills, aerodynamically optimised exterior mirrors, standard BMW Individual High-gloss Shadow Line package and exclusive 20-inch M light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design underline the car’s distinctive appearance, as does twin exhaust tailpipes positioned on the outer edges of the rear apron. Also integrated into the rear apron, and charged with the task of optimising airflow along the car’s underbody, is a diffuser made from CFRP. This extremely lightweight, impressively strong high-tech material is used in the construction of the roof as well. Emulating the harmonious blend of athletic prowess and elegance embodied by the exterior design, the distinctively M cockpit fuses sports car style with generous levels of space and a luxurious ambience. The driver and front passenger can look forward to M sports seats with integral belt guides. And the BMW M6 Gran Coupe’s standard specification also includes Merino leather upholstery with extended features. The rear compartment offers two or three seats.
The exclusive look of the new BMW M6 Convertible is underlined by the “fin” architecture of the high-quality soft-top roof. Projecting into the rear section, the fins accentuate the car’s dynamically sweeping silhouette. The heated, vertical glass rear window, which is situated just behind the rear seats, retracts independently of the soft-top itself. The automatic opening and closing process for the roof can be activated both at a standstill and while on the move at speeds of up to 40 km/h (25 mph) using a button on the centreconsole. The optional Comfort Access allows the roof to be opened or closed by pressing the remote control button on the car key. It takes the roof 19 seconds to open and 24 seconds to close again.
The latest version of the compound high-performance braking system helps give the new BMW M6 Coupe and new BMW M6 Convertible outstanding stopping power. Its stand-out features include even lower weight, excellent feel and fade-free performance even under heavy loads. The diameter of the inner-vented and perforated brake discs is 400 millimetres at the front and 396 millimetres at the rear. The six-piston fixed-calliper brakes at the front axle – painted dark blue metallic and complete with the M logo – are radially bolted to the pivot bearing.
