BMW M6 Gran Coupe is MotoGP’s 2013 safety car

BMW has been involved in MotoGP since 1999 and provides the official Safety Cars also for the 2013 season. This season, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe will spearhead the fleet of Safety Cars in action in the MotoGP World Championship. Powered by a high-rev V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology generating 560 hp, BMW M6 Gran Coupe to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds. The Safety Car version of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe has been specially modified for its use as a pace car out on the racetrack.

In the 2012 MotoGP series, Yamaha Factory Racing team riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies are racing with the Yamaha YZR-M1. In the 2012 MotoGP, the maximum engine displacement permitted is 1000cc with a maximum of four cylinders. The minimum weight of the bike is 150 kg with, if the engine displacement isn’t more than a 800cc. If the engine displacement is between 801 to 1000cc, the minimum weight of the bike is 153 kg. A maximum of 6 engines may be used by each permanent contracted rider for all the scheduled races of the season. Penalty for infringement of this means the rider will start from the pit lane 10 seconds after the start of the race.

In the MotoGP, the premier class of the FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix (WGP), the Honda factory team of Repsol Honda Team will put forward a lineup of two riders, last year’s series champion Casey Stoner together with Dani Pedrosa. In line with the regulation change of 2012, Honda will enter the newly developed RC213V machine, Honda is targeting to win all three championship titles this year, capturing the rider’s, team’s, and constructor’s titles for the second year in a row. Honda will also supply machines to two satellite teams. Alvaro Bautista will represent Team San Carlo Honda Gresini, and Stefan Bradl, last year’s Moto2 class champion, will represent LCR Honda MotoGP.
