The Audi A5 model series has been refreshed for the 2012 model year. The biggest exterior changes can be seen in its front end design. The new front bumper features new air inlets with massive struts, revamped grilles and flat fog lights. The engine hood has been reshaped with sharply chiseled edges. The target was to make the front end look even flatter and wider, a job in which Audi has succeeded quite well. Especially the newly designed headlights make the front of the car look more poised. It looks like the Audi A5 is always ready to go. The lower edge of the headlight forms a wave. With the optional xenon plus headlights, the LED daytime running lights form a narrow frame for the Xenon-headlight. The adaptive light system with dynamic cornering light and turning light is also available. Also the rear bumber and the rear lights of the Audi A5 have been redesigned.
If you thought that there were already enough four-door variants in the Audi range, you were wrong. Now there is yet another one. The newest model is the A7 Sportback. It looks a bit like a coupe, but has four doors and a decent backseat. The new A7 is a big car. With measures of 4969mm long and 1911mm wide, it is bigger than A5 and even A6. If measured with side mirrors, it is even wider than the Audi A8. The height is only 1420mm and with the coupe-styled roofline, the A7 looks kind of sportier version of a big four-door Audi. In the backseat there is enough legroom, but because of the roofline, headroom is the problem. An adult can travel in the back, but as the ceiling starts to get close, it is not that comfortable. The tailgate is huge, as the whole rear window opens up. Luggage compartment offers 535 litres of luggage space.
Audi’s A5 model range have grown a lot since it was first unveiled. Now there’s a Coupe, Cabriolet and Sportback. All of these are available also as S5 models and the latest addition in the model range is the most powerful version, the RS 5 Coupe. Sportback offers better usability with its rear doors, while tying to follow the shapes of the beautiful 2-door coupe. So most of the styling details are familiar from the coupe, like the frameless doors. This 4-door version is not as good looking as the coupe, but it doesn’t come too much behind. Especially in its S5 uniform, it looks pretty tempting.
