Mercedes-AMG is presenting the new Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG simultaneously at the Los Angeles Auto Show and the Tokyo Motor Show. As a top-of-the-line model, the S 65 AMG features a V12 biturbocharged engine with an output of 463 kW (630 hp) and 1000 Nm.
The Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG is the only S-Class model powered by a V12 engine. The AMG 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine delivers 463 kW (630 hp) with a maximum torque of 1000 newton metres. The new Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited).
The defining features of the Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG’s interior are the upholstery in exclusive nappa leather with seat upholstery layout in an exclusive diamond-pattern design. The delineated perforations in the leather upholstery of the AMG sports seats are a special highlight. There are intentionally no perforations in the nappa leather wherever there is contrasting topstitching. The result is extraordinarily neat seams and an unrivalled impression of quality.
The Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG Racing Series concept car provides a preview of a customer sports racing car from Mercedes-AMG. It is based on the Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG, which turbocharged AMG 2.0-litre unit generates 265 kW (360 hp) and maximum torque of 450 newton metres. As on the standard model, power on the racing version is transferred by the AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed sports transmission. The technical specifications will vary according to the race rules and race series.
Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Aston Martin Lagonda intend to enter a technical partnership. Essential elements of the planned partnership are supply agreements between Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Benz Cars and Aston Martin. The proposed deal will see Aston Martin access significant Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Mercedes-Benz Cars’ resources, allowing the development of bespoke V8 powertrains and the use of certain components of electric/electronic architecture.
The AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine with an output of 430 kW (585 hp) and torque of 900 Nm delivers effortlessly superior performance. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4.0 to 4.4 seconds, depending on model variant, and the top speed is 250 km/h (electronically limited). The S 63 AMG also leads the way when it comes to power-to-weight ratio, boasting a figure of 3.49 kg/hp. The fuel consumption of the new S 63 AMG is 0.4 litres per 100 kilometres lower than that of the predecessor model, even though the engine output has been increased by up to 30 kW (41 hp). The range-topping eight-cylinder model already meets the requirements of the EU6 emissions standard, which is due to come into force in 2015.
