Audi presented the latest generation of its 3.0 TDI engine at the 35th International Vienna Motor Symposium. The new V6 diesel is more powerful, more efficient and cleaner than ever. Audi offers the exhaust turbocharged V6 in two versions producing 160 kW (218 hp) and 200 kW (272 hp). It features a 90‑degree cylinder bank angle and a displacement of 2,967 cc. Peak torque is as much as 600 Nm (442.5 lb-ft) depending on the model. Although the new 3.0 TDI is significantly more powerful than its predecessor, it is – again depending on the model – as much as 13 percent more fuel efficient.

The Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG is the only S-Class model powered by a V12 engine. The AMG 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine delivers 463 kW (630 hp) with a maximum torque of 1000 newton metres. The new Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited).
In 1900, Wilhelm Maybach designed a completely new engine for the new Daimler 35 hp Mercedes model. With a bore/stroke ratio of 116 x 140 mm, the engine had a total displacement of 5918cc and output of around 35 hp.
The 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is powered by the LS7 7.0-litre V8 engine. The Z/28 engine is adapted from the LS7 used in the C6 Corvette Z06, which was developed in conjunction with Corvette Racing. It is rated at an estimated 500 horsepower (373 kW) and 470 lb.-ft. of torque (637 Nm).
Just like the second and third generations of the BMW M3, the new BMW M3 Sedan will be powered by a 6-cylinder in-line engine. However, unlike its predecessors, the new BMW M3 is turbocharged featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. The same engine will be used in the new BMW M4 Coupe.
Cadillac’s first-ever Twin-Turbo, available on the 2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport and XTS Vsport models in the U.S. this fall, kicks turbo lag to the curb with a unique combination of smaller turbochargers, top-mounted throttle body and shorter air pathways. The Cadillac Twin-Turbo V6’s patented air flow design, which eliminates circuitous heat-exchanger tubing, makes the most of engine packaging efficiency to improve torque response time over other air flow designs.
The 2014 Corvette Stingray’s all-new LT1 6.2-litre V8 engine is SAE-certified at 460 horsepower (343 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 465 lb-ft of torque (630 Nm) at 4,600 rpm, with the available performance exhaust system. With the standard exhaust, the numbers are 455 horsepower (339 kW) and 460 lb-ft (624 Nm). They are the highest standard power ratings ever for the Corvette, delivered with efficiency that is expected to exceed 26 mpg on the highway.
Opel is launching three new engine families and 13 new engines between 2012 and 2016, renewing 80 percent of its engine portfolio. In the same period the company will also launch a host of new transmissions. Opel is beginning the renewal of its powertrain portfolio now, by introducing all-new 1.6-liter gasoline and diesel engines, together with next generation five and six-speed gearboxes.
Ford launches a new 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine. Production of the four-cylinder 1.5-liter EcoBoost – the fifth member of the EcoBoost family – will commence initially at Ford’s facility in Craiova, Romania, later this month. Other manufacturing locations will be announced in the future. The new engine will be first introduced in China in the all-new Ford Mondeo, making its public debut later this month at Auto Shanghai 2013, with applications following in the Fusion sedan in North America this year, and later the new Mondeo in Europe.
Volvo Car Group will launch a new VEA (Volvo Engine Architecture) engine family this autumn with world-first i-ART technology that helps to cut fuel consumption in the new diesel engines. By featuring pressure feedback from each fuel injector instead of using a traditional single pressure sensor in the common rail, i-ART makes it possible to continuously monitor and adapt fuel injection per combustion in each of the four cylinders.
