Road Test: 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet

The new Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet is a perfect retro car. It inevitably resembles the original Beetle Cabriolet from 1949, but still has modern design. The car looks great and is much sportier than the predecessor, the New Beetle Cabriolet. Compared to which, the Beetle Cabriolet is 152 mm (6.0 inches) longer and 84 mm (3.3 inches) wider. Car’s overall length is 4,278 mm (168.4 inches). The longer wheelbase has improved interior space and boot capacity. At the rear there is enough knee space also for an adult passenger. The cargo capacity has increased by 24 litres to 225 litres. The rear seat can now be folded down, thanks to a newly developed rollover protection system.

Road Test: 2011 BMW 650i Convertible

It’s hard to be unnoticed when driving with the BMW’s new 6 Series Convertible. If the previous 6 Series looked good, this new one is astonishing. With the total length of 4894 millimetres, the new Convertible is 74 millimetres longer than its predecessor. The car is also 39 millimetres wider and now measures 1894 millimetres across. At the same time 9 millimetres have been shaved off its height. As the car’s height is only 1365 millimetres, it looks even longer and wider than it actually is. As the car has grown in width and length, the interior is quite spacious, especially in the front. The 6 Series is designed to be a 2+2 seater, so the legroom is surprisingly small in the rear seat considering the car’s wheelbase of 2855 millimetres. Eventhough the car has lost some height, it still provides quite nicely headroom in both front and rear seats, also with the roof on top. The Dakota leather trim is standard, but Nappa leather is available as an option in four colour options. In addition to the seats, the instrument panel, the centre console and the upper sections of the rear door panel and side trim can also be lined with Nappa leather as an option and if you want the interior to look even more special, these interior elements can also be ordered with the stitching in a contrasting colour.

Road Test: 2011 BMW 125i Convertible

For the model year 2011, the two-door models of the BMW 1 Series got some design modifications and optimised aerodynamics. At the front, there is a restyled front apron with one large central air intake and two vertical side intakes. The central air intake is enhanced by a black trim strip and the foglamps are intagrated in the apron. Functionally the biggest innovation in the front apron is the integration of air curtains into the outer air intakes. They have the effect of considerably reducing turbulence in the area of the wheel arches by optimising airflow. At the outside edge of the side air intakes, the inflowing air is guided through closed ducts, which lead along the inside of the front apron to the two wheel arches. In each wheel arch, the air emerges from a narrow, vertically-orientated slot so that it is directed just along the sidewalls of the tyre at high speed. This optimisation of the aerodynamic results in a further reduction in emissions for the new BMW 1 Series Coupe and Convertible. For even sportier look, the M Sports Package is available for all models as an option. The BMW 135i has a modified M Aerodynamics Package as standard.
